The Pemba Channel, plunging to great depths between Pemba and the mainland, is legendary among anglers — a deep-water highway for marlin, sailfish, yellowfin tuna, wahoo, and dorado, fished by far fewer boats than Kenya’s or Zanzibar’s grounds. For serious sport fishing, it’s one of East Africa’s premier locations.
Charters run from Pemba’s lodges with experienced skippers and proper tackle, targeting billfish (catch-and-release encouraged) and eating species alike. It’s a genuine bucket-list outing for keen anglers.

Premier sport fishing for keen anglers — the channel's depth and low pressure make for excellent fishing, best August to March. It's a specialist, premium outing; casual visitors will get more from a Zanzibar reef trip. We strongly encourage releasing billfish to sustain the fishery.
