Fly-In Safari

Skip the long drives — light-aircraft hops carry you between remote camps and parks, turning travel days into more time with the wildlife.

Experience Guide

A fly-in safari swaps hours of bumpy road for scenic 30–90 minute flights in small bush planes, landing on airstrips deep inside the parks. It’s the smartest way to combine far-flung areas — say the northern Serengeti with the southern Selous — without losing days to driving, and the aerial views of the plains are spectacular in their own right.

It’s also the only practical way to reach Tanzania’s remote southern and western parks. Camps meet you at the airstrip and you’re on a game drive within minutes. For travellers short on time or chasing the wildest corners, flying transforms what’s possible in a week.

How It Unfolds

Arrival
Meet & fly

A short flight from Arusha or Dar lands you near your first camp.

Airstrip
Straight to safari

Camp staff collect you and you're game-driving within minutes.

Between camps
Hop onward

Quick flights link distant parks that driving can't sensibly connect.

Return
Easy exit

A final flight back to your international gateway.

Is It Worth It?

Flying is worth it when distance or time is the constraint — it's the only realistic way to combine the northern and southern circuits in one trip, or to reach Ruaha and the Selous comfortably. For a straightforward Northern Circuit loop, driving is cheaper and lets you see the landscape change. Note small luggage limits (usually ~15kg, soft bags).

Good to Know

  • Soft bags only, ~15kg luggage limit typical
  • Best for combining distant parks
  • Aerial views are a highlight in themselves
  • Schedules can shift with weather — build in buffer

Before You Book

Why choose a fly-in safari?
+
To save time and reach remote parks. Flying turns long road-transfer days into short scenic hops, leaving more time for wildlife — and it's the only easy way to combine distant regions.
What are the luggage limits?
+
Light aircraft usually allow around 15kg in soft-sided bags. We'll confirm exact limits and can store excess luggage for you.
Is it safe?
+
Yes — scheduled bush flights are operated by established carriers with experienced pilots; it's routine travel within Tanzania.
Can I combine flying and driving?
+
Often the best plan — drive the Northern Circuit to enjoy the scenery, then fly to a southern park for contrast.
