Extraordinary African Safaris
See the plains from the saddle — riding among giraffe and zebra brings you closer to the wild than any vehicle, for confident riders.
A horseback safari offers something no 4×4 can: plains game accept a horse as one of their own, so you ride right among zebra, giraffe, and wildebeest without the barrier of an engine. Moving silently across open country at the pace of hooves is the closest most travellers come to the old explorers’ Africa.
Rides run on the Maasai plains around West Kilimanjaro and in select conservancies, from half-day outings to multi-day trails sleeping in mobile fly-camps. It requires genuine riding ability — this is wild country with potentially excitable horses — but for capable riders it’s one of the most exhilarating ways to experience the bush.
Riders are paired to ability and given a safety briefing.
Move among zebra and giraffe at the pace of hooves.
Pause for refreshments and to take in the silence.
Longer trails overnight in mobile fly-camps.
This is the one safari where ability genuinely matters — you must be a competent rider, comfortable at a canter and able to handle a fit horse in open country, because predators and sudden movement are real. For experienced riders it's unforgettable; for beginners, it's not the place to learn. We'll assess your level honestly before booking.
