Climbing Kilimanjaro as a family is an extraordinary shared achievement, and with the right planning it’s very doable for fit children aged about 10 and up. We choose a longer route for gentler acclimatisation, pace it for the family, and assign guides experienced with younger climbers who keep spirits and energy up.
Safety is paramount: we watch children especially closely for altitude, with daily health checks and a clear, no-ego turnaround policy. Many families summit together; for younger or less experienced children, reaching a high camp is itself a triumph.

A wonderful family challenge, but be realistic and safety-led: the minimum age is around 10, children need genuine hiking fitness, and altitude affects them too. We build in a longer route and watch kids closely, and we'll always prioritise health over the summit. For the right family, it's a once-in-a-lifetime bond.
